Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) – Tamil Nadu is a dedicated movement to strengthen grassroots democracy and ensure local governance. We, as a part of the Indian National Congress, continue to work towards a transparent and self-fulfilling regime that gives power to the people and is transparent and self-satisfied. Our main ambition is that every village, town and corporation in Tamil Nadu should be able to shape their own future.

Strengthening Local Leadership

RGPRS Tamil Nadu is committed to identifying, nurturing and supporting honest and compassionate leaders at the grassroots level. We provide training to emerging leaders on political ethics, administrative systems, and public service to help them effectively tackle local problems and bring about major changes in society. By forming ward committees and encouraging community participation, we bridge the gap between the government and the people and ensure that every citizen’s voice is heard.

Why is local government important?

A strong local body is the backbone of a thriving democracy. We focus on educating people about the Panchayati Raj Act, the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, Gram Sabha, Area Sabha and local budgets. These critical elements empower citizens to actively participate in decision-making processes and hold elected representatives accountable.
